(Answer) (Category) UNE Callista Online - FAQ : (Category) UNESIS - U.N.E. Student Information System :
What is "Jinitiator" and why do I need it?
JInitiator 1.3.1.18 is a small software plugin required on Windows computers to run Callista.

If you have administrator access to your system, this installation will happen the first time Callista is accessed. (A small icon will appear in the top left page of the screen, followed by a couple of installation prompts).

If you do not have admin rights, somebody needs to log in as an administrator and install jinitiator with admin rights

To install jinitiator:

  • Log on to the computer as Administrator (or ask the administrator to log on for you.
  • Go to the Unesis homepage at http://unesis.une.edu.au and click on the SISPROD link
  • Depending on their version, different prompts will come up - follow the prompts (i.e. hit INSTALL to start the installation, and then NEXT once or twice.
  • Once the installation is complete log off as administrator and back in as the normal user.
  • Go back to the UNESIS homepage and try your normal logon.

The plug-in is also available at our downloads page.

When I go to the Callista Homepage, nothing happens. All I get is a blank screen.
In order to access Callista, you will need to have a small plug-in called Jinitiator. <p> For most users this will happen when they first logon to Callista. However, if you are NOT an administrator on your own computer, the software can not be installed automatically. <

(Answer) (Category) UNE Callista Online - FAQ : (Category) UNESIS - U.N.E. Student Information System :
Why are we moving away from Banner?
Banner was a good system but over the past few years it has become increasingly expensive to keep it running. Because Banner is an American system, developers at UNE have had to constantly modify it to satisfy the demands of an Australian university. Banner has no capacity to deal with new Australian government reporting requirements introduced under HEIMS. Callista, on the other hand, is a world-class Australian system already in use at eleven other Australian universities. Callista is working together with UNE and other Australian universities to implement the HEIMS requirements. We were extremely thorough in our selection process and have no doubt that Callista is the right system for UNE.

When I save report files on Mac OSX, they open in SPSS and not in Excel
When you view or download classlist and other report files on a Mac and have SPSS installed, the output file opens in SPSS and not Excel.
The reason for this is that SPSS "highjacks" .csv files and open them instead of opening them in Microsoft Excel.
To change this: 1) carry out the download as normal and save the file but do not open the file when prompted by the application 2) then highlight the file and click File, Get Info from the main system menu 3) then choose Excel from the Open With menu 4) click Change All (to ensure .csv's are always opened with Excel)
This will ensure that in the future all .csv files are openened in Excel

Screen Resolution on Macs and PCs - the text of Callista is too small
Unfortunately it is not possible to make the text bigger in Callista. To change the size of text in Callista, you will need to change the screen resolution of your Mac or PC.
On a PC this is done in START - CONTROL PANELS - DISPLAY and on a Mac you will need to do to APPLE MENU - SYSTEM PREFERENCES - DISPLAY.
Reduce the resolution of your screen (i.e. if it is set to 1024x728, set it to the next lower of 800x600). Apply the changes. Everything will look bigger now, including Callista.
You may need to select different resolutions until you find one that is suitable for Callista and your other work.

Can I create a short cut on my desktop for UNESIS?
Callista is a web based application which you can access via a link on the UNESIS home page (http://unesis.une.edu.au). You can save the url as a favourite in your web browser and simply open the application using the favourite.

Or to create a shortcut on your Windows desktop go to the above link and when the Callista logon window opens close it to go back to the previous page, which will be blank, and from the "file" menu choose "send" then "shortcut to desktop". When you double click the shortcut it will launch the Callista logon window.

I can't find the course that I am looking for in ADMF3000 / 1200
It is vital that you check your sessions details when you first go into forms like ADMF 3000 (Admissions) or ADMF 1200 (Admission Enquiries). If you forget to set the session details, or set them incorrectly, you will not find the course that you are looking for in the list of values. For example you will not find a non-award degree if the session details are set for domestic coursework.

I'm having trouble printing reports
When you run a report you wil also need to set the Person Preferences in order to get a printout. You only need to do this the first time you wish to print a report. This procedure is outlined on p.53 of the Basic Navigation & Inquiry training manual.
In any report form click the Maintain Person Preferences (Tool) icon. Click on the List of Values (Down Arrow icon) and select the appropriate printer. Then enter your email address and save the changes.
If you do this and still have difficulty printing a report please contact the Helpdesk on x5000.

Printing address labels for a class list
The easiest way to print address labels from a class list is to download the class list from UNESIS and then create the labels using a mail merge in Microsoft Word. Steps in this process are:
(1)Run your class list and download it to your desktop as a .csv file
(2)Open a new MS Word document and select <Tools>, <Letters and Mailings>, <Mail Merge>
(3)Follow the steps in the mail merge wizard to create and print address labels based on your downloaded class list.
(4)If you use Avery Code DL33 Labels you can download a label template from the UNESIS homepage (available Mon 18/10). Note that you may need to edit the Address Block in this template to ensure that the fields (first name, surname, address etc) match the fields in your downloaded class list.
You can also use this mail merge approach to print addresses directly on envelopes, or to create address blocks in letters to send out in clear-faced envelopes.
An alternative option is to save your downloaded class list file as a .txt document, import it into a Person ID group via Callista form IDGF1100, and then run the report in IDGR2100 and print.
Contact the Helpdesk (x5000) for assistance with address labels.

(Answer) (Category) UNE Callista Online - FAQ : (Category) UNESIS - U.N.E. Student Information System :
I looked up an address for one of our students and the system didn't have one. How many more students will have the same problem?
It could be that the student did not have address details recorded in Banner. Or it may be one of a small number of student records that didn't transfer correctly from Banner to Callista through the data migration process.
The UNESIS team is currently working through and rectifying these data errors. If you come across any student records that appear to be incorrect or incomplete (eg. missing personal or unit details) please email the details to sdu@pobox.une.edu.au (note that if an individual record shows an 'encumbrance' lamp then it is likely that we already know of the error).

(Answer) (Category) UNE Callista Online - FAQ : (Category) UNESIS - U.N.E. Student Information System :
I am having trouble searching for students on the Inquiry Form when I don't know their student ID no.
A handy tip when searching for student records using INQF1A00 is to use the wildcard (%). This is particularly important in the Given Name field which contains first and middle names. For example, a query on 'Elizabeth Jones' would not find a record for 'Elizabeth Mary Jones', whereas a query on 'Elizabeth% Jones' would.
